Plans of Lunarpages

I have had only one problem with lunarpages and that is when I first joined, they had a server error and all data was lost, but since then not one problem and they were even able to answer any question I had really fast. Never had to contact them over any server problems and every thing works perfect! There is only one thing I don’t like and that there FTP is a bit slow. In overall there hosting is a lot better then any of the past hosting companies I have used.

When looking for a webhost a couple of years ago I did a lot of research to find a reliable web host that provided enough value for my money. I must have read hundreds of reviews and among the many horror stories about other web hosting companies I actually came across many positive reviews for Lunarpages as well as a few other hosting companies. However, although there were other hosting companies with positive reviews; Lunarpages stood out from the rest with their very generous hosting packages, comprehensive community focused website, and good telephone support. I have called customer service and technical support no more than five times (combined) in the last two years and have always been able to get through to a real human being without experiencing a long wait time which with other businesses appears to be the norm these days. If you need a good web host and want the most for your money visit the Lunarpages community forums and see what other current users are saying, then view the hosting packages and decide for yourself.

Last time I talked to support it was in regards to not being able to login into my hosting account. Lunarpages had automatically reset user passwords for security reasons and I had not received the email that was distributed to alert members. I was immediately issued a temporary password and was later able to create my own unique password. The other call I remember was with customer service/billing. Lunarpages offers a free domain registration for life and I had inadvertently been charged for it with my automatic annual account renewal. The representative was happy to issue the credit and the problem was resolved.

I really wanted to like Lunarpages. There service seemed to have a great reputation, but I think I was just put on a bad server. I must say, once I demanded my money back, they coughed it up right away.

Since 2 weeks, I have chosen lunarpages in order to host my website following the reviews which I had found very good on this site. On the other hand, in my case, it is the horror, it has been down 3 times for the 2 weeks and I do not have really an answer to know why on behalf of the support. And that, it is when they answer me… Do not hope to have answers on behalf of the technical support within 4-5 hours. And for the majority of the problems, they say to me that in their LOG, nothing seems to indicate to them that their server do not function. However, when I will read the forums of lunarpages on their site, about people complain that their site is not on line.

Morals of this history, for the moment, I would say that lunarpages is to be avoided to host your site.

I am extremely happy w/ Lunarpages’ dedicated server hosting. We caused our initial ISP to falter due to our large throughput demand, but once we switched to Lunarpages, they have easily handled the capability required. Their staff is down to earth and super pleasant. Highly recommended! Currently we have one Dedicated I and one Dedicated III dedicated server with them.

Uptime: Wonderful, never noticed any downtime in 5 months.

Server Speed: Slow-ish

Support: Fast, even on Sundays, but generally only mediocre in resolving issues. Sometimes awful.

Policies: They dance to whatever AOL’s loony tune is. First we were accused of being spammers because two AOL users with nothing better to do clicked their “report as spam” button (out of thousands of legitimate e-mails sent).

Second: February 28th, 2004, evening: Lunarpages writes a script that looks for all scripts similar to formmail.pl. They go on to RENAME them (rendering them useless!) and THEN send a “by the way…” e-mail. Meanwhile, we had lost 14 hours’ worth of business because our site depends 100% on these scripts.

We had not only renamed our scripts to something that spammers don’t look for, but we had also hard-coded them with OUR “to” e-mail address, so they could not be used by spammers.

The result of my complaint?

Complete and utter indifference:

(1) Not even a hint of a whisper of an apology. Nothing.

(2) Continued insistence that our scripts were potentially insecure by a technically-incompetent person.

(3) Refusal to compensate for lost business.

(4) Refusal to guarantee that this would not happen again.

As a result, I am looking around this site for an alternative web host without policies that sh!t all over their users for the sake of bending over for AOL.

Lunarpages is a great host. Been there for a while and always tries to solve problems we might have as soon as possible, even if it is something we messed up. The only minor problem I have ever had was gallery2 that used too much cpu but other than that, I have no complains for the past 4 years. I once had to move one of my friends accounts and money back gurantee was 100%, no dime taken. Excellent experience!

The value you get with Lunarpages is just incredible. In fact they have increased what you get (bandwidth and disk space) two times in the first year I was with them. Their support has been good, though the service has been so stable I’ve rarely had to use them. They also offer a forums for peer support and unofficial support by LP employees (and they do watch the forums quite closely).

You have a lot of control over your own account with cpanel and also a domain control panel that gives you control over your own domain (so there is no fear the host could hold your domain hostage as I’ve heard elsewhere.)

I couldn’t be happier and have talked my employer into switching to LP as well as another company I do some freelance work for.

Currently, I have 3 websites hosted with Lunarpages. Email and site uptime is excellent. Although my sites are on shared servers, the site response time is great. The available features at Lunarpages are consistently being upgraded. Lunarpages has a support forum that is very active and almost always leads you to the right answer for any question you may that is beyond the scope of support. Lunarpages support is only a phone call or email away. They are responsive and generally get the problem fixed very quickly. I highly recommend Lunarpages for those looking for a reliable host with great support.

I know you have a different list than those listed above.

One of them caught my attention.
But doubtful… i did more surfing(read more forums comments & more reviews, etc.).

I found out that all of them have this in common…
the CPU LIMIT.
Yes, they offer lots of space & bandwidth.
But here’s the catch: you use too much cpu… they suspend your account.
So as you can see, there’s no way your going near the bandwidth you paid for. What a bunch of liars!

Well, that’s my research, you should do your own.
Help me find a better host.

As your mentioned in the comment, indeed, CPU Limit is the biggest problem for share hosting. Anyway, it depends on what you want to run in the host.

Actually, all those share hosting in your list are the same in a professional way, except for the price or some little aspect. If you have resouce limit problem, I have to say that the only way is to upgrade the plan to VPS or even Dedicated Server, both of which means more budget to your site.
